GRIT Walkthrough Recorder Privacy Notice
Data practices for GRIT Automation's private documentation-recording extension.
Effective September 20, 2026Scope
The GRIT Walkthrough Recorder is a private Chrome extension used by authorized GRIT Automation personnel to create walkthrough evidence for documentation. It is designed for synthetic or explicitly non-sensitive GRIT Hub targets. It must not be used with customer data.
Data Handled
Before the Recorder can connect to a tab, it presents a one-time, versioned disclosure. Chrome stores only the accepted disclosure version. Clicking the Recorder icon opens a temporary live stream of the selected tab, but the stream is not recorded or saved until the operator selects Start recording.
Before recording, the Recorder may transiently inspect open-tab addresses, later navigation changes, the selected tab's URL, and its detected GRIT Hub release. The eligibility scan is not saved. The selected URL and release are not saved unless the operator starts a recording. Access granted to a selected Hub origin can remain in Chrome until the operator revokes the extension's site access.
After the operator starts a recording, the extension handles:
- Video of the content visibly rendered in the selected tab
- Microphone audio only when the operator enables narration and grants permission
- Screenshots created when the operator marks a checkpoint
- The operator-provided run label
- The selected tab's sanitized page path, visible non-authentication headings and labels, sanitized click descriptors, and viewport dimensions
- Request method, sanitized path, response status, and timing
- The detected GRIT Hub release and its registered source revision when known
The structured capture excludes input values, query strings, cookies, headers, authentication tokens, request and response bodies, local storage, and session storage. Authentication-screen controls and clicks are suppressed. Video and screenshots necessarily contain the pixels visibly rendered in the selected tab, which is why use is restricted to synthetic or explicitly non-sensitive targets.
Use, Storage, and Sharing
The extension uses this data only to provide the operator-requested recording, checkpoint, recovery, and local Run Bundle export functions. Captured data is stored in the local Chrome profile.
The extension has no upload function and does not transmit captured data to GRIT Automation, Google, or any other third party.
The extension does not sell data, use data for advertising or credit decisions, or use data for a purpose unrelated to the Recorder's single purpose. An exported Run Bundle is written to the operator's local Downloads directory. After export, that copy is outside the extension's storage and remains under the operator's control.
Choice, Retention, and Deletion
Recording begins only when the operator selects Start recording after the extension displays what it will store. Microphone capture is independently optional and requires Chrome permission. Access to a Hub origin is requested when the operator selects that Hub.
Local runs remain in the Chrome profile until the operator explicitly deletes them. Discard recording and Delete local recording remove the selected run's locally stored video, checkpoints, and evidence. They do not remove a Run Bundle already exported to the operator's Downloads directory.
Chrome Web Store Limited Use
The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Changes and Contact
This notice will be updated before a Recorder release changes the data it handles, its purpose, its storage, or its sharing behavior.
Questions about this notice or the Recorder's data practices may be sent to info@gritautomation.com.
